Promise FASTTRAK

Attach 2 or more Ultra ATA / EIDE drives to two independent data channels on the accelerator card. When data is stored, files are split across multiple drives. When data is retrieved, files are read from multiple drives simultaneously ver-sus a single drive. FastTrak effectively moves data faster from disk to system than any onboard PCI IDE controller and drive combination.

  1. Turbocharges data transfers for multimedia applications
  2. Speeds audio/video editing, graphics imaging, CAD
  3. Links multiple drives as one BIG bootable drive
  4. Provides on-the-fly data protection
  5.
  6. Promise FastTrak

Multimedia Applications and Network Servers!!!

  • Get 25MB/sec sustained transfers!
  • SCSI RAID 0, 1, 0/1, data handling and performance at half the cost or less!
  • Configure a single 50GB drive today!
  • Now users of audio/video editing, graphics imaging, multimedia, CAD and entry-level network server environments can ride a new concept of low-cost mass storage performance: IDE RAID. Introducing FastTrak, a low-cost, flexible, and powerful bootable storage solution that links up to four (expandable to eight with 2 FastTraks) high capacity Ultra ATA or EIDE drives as one huge drive C: on a PCI system (RAID 0). Now access up to 50GB or more in a single drive partition easily exceeding the 8.4GB drive size barrier common in most motherboards today.

This RAID Level 0, 1 and 0/1 host adapter ends disk bottlenecks caused by physical read/writes with a multiple data channel, multiple drive access design delivering transfer rates up to 25MB/sec sustained . . . faster than any ATA / EIDE adapter available and comparable to far more expensive SCSI RAID solutions. It runs circles around other host adapters or onboard EIDE controllers. Using a minimum of 2 easy-to-configure, low-cost Ultra ATA or EIDE drives, FastTrak implements high performance SCSI data handling features at half the cost or less of SCSI… no matter the capacity with better performance and reliability.

Whether you’re using high-end graphics or everyday business applications…or configuring a entry-level server, whether you’re running Windows ’95 or NT, FastTrak makes your drives and application response simply faster.

FastTrak plugs and plays into a PCI slot. It allows users to connect up to 4 new Ultra ATA drives and/or existing EIDE drives – freeing up the motherboard’s IDE ports to run slower ATAPI peripherals like CD-ROMs or tape backup. The Promise BIOS automatically identifies and configures the correct drive type and auto-detects and supports Ultra mode transfers. Its simple FastBuild utility quickly configures FastTrak and drives for your choice of maximum performance, protection or a combination of both.

This is a hot new product category and Promise Technology has the hottest AND only low-cost IDE RAID host adapter solution. So what are you waiting for? If it’s more reasons for buying, we’ve put together a market overview, product specifications, and features & benefits of this revolutionary new technology.

  • Market Overview

  • With today’s increased storage capacities, higher drive performance and lowering costs of EIDE / ATA drives, it was only a matter of time before a product like Promise Technology’s new FastTrak made sense. FastTrak permits high-end multimedia developers, graphics workstation users and entry-level network users the power, protection and performance formerly found only with expensive, complex SCSI environments. And FastTrak gives these users mass storage and sophisticated data handling features at a price SCSI storage can’t touch.

Desktop video, high-end imaging, CAD applications and even the demands of today’s huge business application suites are placing strains on users and traditional disk drives architectures. FastTrak’s RAID 0 links (stripes) 4 drives as one huge, bootable drive C: with high performance data throughput.

Small-to-medium sized offices are looking for reliable, low-cost LAN storage performance without the setup headaches and sophisticated data management required by most SCSI RAID subsystems. FastTrak offers smart solution. FastTrak’s RAID 1 offers on-the-fly data mirroring of drives (1-to-1 drive, 2-to-2 drives or even 4-to-4 drives). Should a primary data drive fail, the mirrored drives take over for reliable fault-tolerance. When a failed drive is replaced, data is transferred to the new drive in the background. Or users can take advantage of FastTrak’s RAID 0/1 that combine striping 2 or 4 drives together and mirroring to a second drive set.

FastTrak supports new Ultra ATA / DMA33 drives that offer up to 33MB/sec burst data transfer rates and employ Cyclical Redundancy Checking (CRC) for enhanced data protection at a variety of drive speeds. FastTrak’s IDE RAID solution means better performance than Ultra Wide SCSI. In fact, FastTrak boosts the data transfer specs of both Ultra DMA drives and older EIDE drives – making it perfect for the system upgrade market. FastTrak’s accesses dual data channels simultaneously for data, effectively doubling data transfers.

And FastTrak employs advanced data handling formerly found only with SCI host adapters. It uses elevator seek, load balancing, hardware scatter-gather engine and target command queuing to provide optimum and efficient data performance from controller to drive.

By connecting four disk drives to FastTrak, users free the motherboard’s IDE ports for more devices like ATAPI CD-ROMs and tape drives. Such flexibility brings another level of device support to desktop PCs. As major drive manufacturers read even larger capacity (9GB and above) Ultra ATA/DMA drives are planned for year-end. However, today’s motherboards do not support drives larger than 8.4GB (either Ultra or EIDE). FastTrak easily breaks this barrier.

    Ultimate Price/Performance

FastTrack lowers the cost of producing SVHS quality non linear editing. You can find 6+ GB UltraDMA EIDE drives from Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum and many other companies for under $300. That means you can create a 16+GB RAID 0 storage solution for under $750!!! You can even hook together four 11+GB drives to create a 45GB video storage solution capable of handling everything a DC30+, AV Master or Spark can put out!!!
